Happy 9th Gotcha Day Kylan!

Every year since the kids have come home from Korea we have celebrated their "gotcha day", the day that we "got" them from S. Korea.  Today is Kylan's 9th gotcha day, wow how time has flown by so quickly and right before our eyes this little guy is now 1/2 grown, before we can turn around he will be off to college!  It's crazy!  He has been such a huge change in our life, I never grew up with boys in the house, just my sister and myself so I was so shocked by some of the things this little guy has done but without him life would be BORING!  He brings a smile to our face and laughter into our life, I'm so proud to call him my son.  Kylan, we love you and thank God for you each and every day since He has brought you into our lives.

Here are the gotcha day posts from 2010, 2009, 2008, and 2007.

Perfect Brownie Baking Kit

Last year for Christmas Kylan really wanted to buy the Perfect Brownie Baking Set for me but I really wanted a handmade gift from him, I just love getting handmade gifts from the kids, I treasure them! So for my birthday he was determined that I was getting the Perfect Brownie Baking Set, so I obliged him and ordered it for my birthday from Kylan! He was soooo excited about my birthday gift from him and we had to make brownies with it! It was super easy to use and they came out perfect! I rate it 2 thumbs up and would recommend it to others. All of the brownies were cut perfectly and were the same size and consistency. The patent pending design of the Perfect Brownie™ Baking Pan bakes each piece separately so they are flakey and crispy on the outside, but rich and gooey on the inside.

I had a question about the cleanup and I have to tell you that it's super simple because you spray it with Pam before baking and everything just slips off the brownie set and then it's dishwasher safe so I just put it in the dishwasher and that was the end! I'm not saying that in this economy you need this but if you want it, it does work and it works well. Of course it's just as easy to slice up a pan of brownies with a butter knife too, LOL!

DSI fun

I love these, they remind me of snowflakes!

This is a picture of Kenzie and her friend Hailey turned into one person...crazy!

Makenzie called this one brainiac!

Our dog Trix

Last year Makenzie won a Nintendo DSI from her orthodontist and Kylan received one for Christmas, they have been having so much fun playing with them by making crazy pictures. Here are a few of their crazy photos!

Kylan's hair

Kylan's dance team is called Lil' Force and they decided to use this green spray and make their hair green for dance competition. Since Kylan's hair is black I wasn't sure it would work on him but it did and almost looks like he's growing grass on his head. If you want/need some green glittering hair color you can buy it for $2 in the party isle at Wal-Mart and the brand is Party Success and of course it's temporary so it washes out easily!

Opening a coconut

Trying to get off all of that tough outer husk

The coconut with the outer husk pulled off

Hammering the nail into the eyes to get out the milk

This is the coconut split in 1/2

While in Mexico Kylan found a coconut and he stuck it in our beach bag and we've had it ever since. I wasn't sure if they would let us bring it back to the US but customs did let us. So, we've had this coconut and hadn't opened it yet. It's a pretty small coconut and still had the husk (the hard outer shell) so Kevin got a hammer out and started pulling that stuff off and we finally got to the round coconut that everyone is used to seeing! Then, we got a nail and hammered it into each of the 3 eyes on the end of the coconut and then we poured out the coconut milk...it was really more like water and the kids drank it. We then cracked it open and scooped out the coconut meat on the inside. It's really yummy! Kylan was so excited that we finally opened his little coconut!!!

Kylanism's

Every morning my friend Sarah and I get up and walk and I am always telling her the funny things that Kylan says so she said I needed to post them on the blog as "Kylanism's" so here they are.

Mom, I need to walk every morning with you and Sarah because I have too many pounds but I don't know what they are.
Ms. Leah says I have lots of pounds but I still don't know what pounds are

My mom tells Kylan that he's a comedian and he says, "No I'm not I'm Korean"

Kylan gained like 9 lbs while on our cruise and he tells us everyday, "I sure do miss all of that good food from the cruise"

Before we went on the cruise Kylan didn't want to leave the house in shorts because he said his legs were to white and that Koreans are supposed to be tan. I tell him that if he will wear shorts then his legs will start getting tanner but if he wear pants then his legs will stay white and he turns to me and says, "Mom, it's just a vicious circle"....where did he get that??

He walks out of his room the other morning and says, "Mom, my cranium hurts"...that means he has a headache!

Kylan has been calling any type of sunglasses, glasses or reading glasses "spectacles" since he was about 3 yrs old! I just love his choice in words...too cute!

If you have something funny that he has said to you then email me and I will add it!

Kylan told us that he loved wearing his "tuck" while on the cruise and that he wants to wear it again sometime. Not a tux but a tuck!

Anytime he wants something and I tell him it's not in the budget at this time he tells me to just put it on my credit card or write a check for it because that's not "real" money.

Kylan ALWAYS says that Kevin's favorite color is brown. We wondered why until he told us well dad wears it everyday so he must just love brown! What can brown do for you??? Kevin works for UPS...LOL!!

When Kylan refers to the ship that we sailed on for our cruise he says, "Crew ship" because we were always telling him that the people that work on the ship are called the crew so he thought it was a "crew ship" not a cruise ship.

Kylan used to call Aunt Lori.....Uncle Larry! We thought that was so funny!

He also calls one of the guys from our small group at church Mr. Christy because he's married to Ms. Christy and he couldn't remember Steve's name so he just thought it was logical to call him Mr. Christy!

Anytime I ask him to help me and he thinks it's too hard he says, "I'm just a 7 yr old little kid"...ok like flushing the toilet and washing your hands is too hard for a 7 yr old! PLEASE!!!

This is a post from Grammy, "He asked me to marry him. He talked about it for weeks. He even showed me the eye ball ring he was going to buy me for my wedding ring. Then one day, he called and said, "Grammy I have loved you since the moment I saw you, but I can't marry you. I'm really sorry but I can't marry you because you are too old. And old ladies can't have babies, and I want a wife that can have a baby, I'm really sorry though". He was so serious about it, I just said well that's okay, thank God I'm too old to have babies. and God will have the right wife for you when you're old enough. That boy is so cute. I think this is a great thing for your blog. You will probably write a book. I will think of the other things he says. They are so funny"

Thanks!

Thank you for all of your prayers, calls, and cards! They were much appreciated. We are getting everything under control and the medicine seems to be helping Kylan but please still keep him in your prayers!

Happy Gotcha Day to Kylan!

The picture the newspaper ran about Kylan's homecoming.
The newpaper article...if you click on it you should be able to read it. It still brings tears to my eyes every time I read about his arrival!!

Yesterday was Kylan's 6th gotcha day! He really wanted to go to Incredible Pizza this year so we did! He had so much fun playing games and visiting with family. Since it was his special day everyone gave him their tickets (THANKS Korey, Tiffany and Makenzie) and he bought a camo lava lamp...he's so happy about it!

Grandpa took him on a go-cart ride, Grandma shared her tokens with him and Grammy took him around to play some games. Then after all of that we went to Grammy's and watched the video of Kylan and I arriving home from Korea! I can't believe it's been 6 yrs!!! Time flies when you have kids to love on!
If you don't know the miracle story of Kylan's adoption...just ask me sometime because it's an almost unbelievable story but we all know from Matthew 19: 26 " With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. "

Kylan goes farming

Kylan was so excited because Kevin took him out the last night we were in Iowa to go ride in the combine and the tractor. He loves to go "farming" when he goes to Iowa and this was his first time in the combine and it was all he could talk about the next day!
