United States Marine Corps

Kevin and I were on a Caribbean cruise and we received a phone call from Kenzie. She wanted to let us know she had just joined the United States Marine Corp and would be leaving for bootcamp at the end of the summer. We were shocked! I advised her not to sign anything until we returned home.  Too late, she's already signed everything and had been to Oklahoma City for MAPS testing.  She really wanted to get a high enough score to get into the intelligence program. Thankfully, she scored very high and was able to get into the MOS that she wanted.
After everything went down she ended up getting into bootcamp in May of 2019 and we didn't see her and only heard from her two times while she was gone.  We proudly headed to Parris Island, South Carolina on August 13th, 2019. She graduated bootcamp on Kylan's 18th birthday August 15th, 2019 and we were able to take her back to Tulsa with us. She stayed for about 9 days. Life as we knew it with our girl was forever changed and she headed out to Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California. She stayed there for a little over a month for MCT-Marine Combat Training and then she went to Dam Neck Naval Base for her MOS schoolhouse training. She was there several months until she finished her training and then she got to pick her base. She picked Okinawa, Japan and she got her top choice. So very proud of her! During all of this she kept a great attitude and even told us how much she enjoyed the Crucible during bootcamp. If you don't know what the Crucible is then I'll give you a snapshot of what they do.
