Casa Bonita

We finished our unit study on Mexico and we were supposed to make a Mexican or Fiesta but our friend Christy is using the same curriculum and they went to Casa Bonita when they finished their unit on Mexico...I thought this was a great idea because I wouldn't have to decorate, cook and clean up after this Fiesta! The kids were excited and enjoyed the restaurant because it has games, a waterfall, a cave, a Magician and Mexican style buildings. I think Kenzie's favorite thing was raising the flag at your table when you need service! We hadn't been to Casa Bonita since the kids were a lot littler because they closed down for 4 years and just opened up again this year. WE are glad they are back in business!

BOO!!

I've been BOO-ed by my friend, Christy! How fun is it to "Boo!" all my blog friends!? Here are the instructions that come with the Blogging Boo: Go to as many friends as you want and tell them they've been "B00-ed". Have them link back to your blog to pick up their Halloween Treat (picture) and tell them to Boo their friends. Then put the picture in your side bar so everyone knows that you've already been "boo-ed" and to send the picture to someone else.
I am off to Boo! Maybe I will find you!
BTW, if you just read this blog, you have now been BOO-ed!

Garth Brooks sighting

Tonight we went out to eat at Baja Jacks burrito shack in our town and as we were eating I noticed a familiar face at a table over by the window and it was Garth Brooks with one of his daughters. He had on a hat that was from our town's high school sports team and he also had on an OSU shirt. He was friendly to everyone that came and talked to him and then they quietly left the restaurant. He always seems so nice and friendly and never seems to mind signing autographs or getting his picture taken with fans and NEVER draws attention to himself. It always gives us a little thrill to spot him around town! Please leave a comment and tell me if you have spotted a famous person in your town!

Caramel Apple Cupcakes

This is such a yummy fall recipe that I decided I had to share it with everyone that I know and love!  As Makenzie said, "Mom, they are the bomb dot com!" and she had a friend over and she said that they were "delicious" and Kylan didn't say anything because he had his mouth full and wanted more. You have to try them and let me know how they turn out.

CARAMEL APPLE CUPCAKES:
1 package spice or carrot cake mix
2 cups chopped peeled tart apples (we used apples we had on hand and left some of the peel on)
PREPARE cake according to package directions - but fold in the apples. We used applesauce in place of the oil in this recipe. Bake according to cupcake directions. (350 for about 20 min.)
20 caramels (I used the KRAFT brand)
3 TBSP milk
1 cup finely chopped pecans OR other toppings - such as candy, sprinkles, coconut, etc.
Popsicle sticks (we needed about 24)
In a microwave safe dish, put the unwrapped caramels with the milk. Heat on high for 30 seconds and then stir. Continue until all the caramels are melted. Let sit for about 5 minutes. Spread over each of the cupcakes. You can turn the cupcakes upside down or keep them right side up. Sprinkle with toppings. Insert a stick in each one. Makes about 2 dozen (at least ours did)

Homecoming

Last night was the big night for our kids. They were the flower girl and crown bearer at the homecoming ceremony for our town's high school. Yes, I know that they are both homeschooled and not in the public school system but it just worked out that we have been friends with the homecoming Queen since she was a baby and Kevin and I have felt like she was our "adopted daughter" for years and years. Taylor and her brother Conner were our "kids" before we had our own and we have learned many valuable parenting tips from their parents Mark and Christy. It almost surreal to see Taylor all grown up and a Sr in high school and going off to college next year. She was such a cute little baby the first time we met her and now she's almost off on her own and such a wonderful young lady. I know that our kids look up to her and we couldn't ask for a better role model in life then Taylor. All eyes were focused on Taylor and our kids were so happy to part of her special night and it's something that they will remember forever.

I have to say thank you to Ashley for the use of her beautiful black fur capelet that she let Makenzie borrow last night. Without it on I know Makenzie would have been a frozen popsicle because her dress was sleeveless. THANKS ASHLEY!

I also have to say thanks to all of our family that made it last night and came out to support our kids! We really appreciate you being there and those of you that couldn't make it thanks for all of the encouraging words! The kids were a little nervous but did a great job.

Also, thanks to Lanette at Too Blonde Salon for making Makenzie's hair (she has a ton of it) look fabulous! It's still curly today because she was too tired from all the fun to come home and wash her hair

Facebook addiction...it's all Christy's fault!

OK, I am admitting an addiction to Facebook and it's all my friend Christy's fault because she sent me an invite to join and it's so much fun and now I just can't stop! Are any of you on Facebook? Leave me a comment if you are! As for me I am heading back to Facebook to write on some friends walls!

Formals

The kids were asked to be the "flower girl" and attendant for the band homecoming in our hometown. They were both so excited and Kylan couldn't wait to wear his "tuckcedo". He also told Kenzie that they looked like they were getting married. Kids are so funny! The coronation ceremony is on Thursday night and I will have even more pics to share with you!

Colour du jour

Colour du jour is having a comment contest so check in with her and take a peek at the cute fabric that she will make "something" for the winner!

Pumpkin Patch with the cousins

Makenzie and MaKenzie together again!
The kids being silly!

Kenzie trying to pull Kylan
Grandpa pulled the grandkids around the patch in that wagon
Kylan with his "sweet pumkin"

Kinley is such a cutie
Peek a boo makes her laugh!

I think this one was the best one with Grandma and Grandpa!

Last night we got together with the Wedemeyer side of the family and went to the pumpkin patch for some cousin photos. I took around 66 photos and only a few of them turned out pretty good...in most pix 1 or more of the kids are not looking at the camera but that's ok because they were having a fun time with their cousins.

Review of last week-this one is long

Brooke on the monkey bars
Kenzie swinging
Kylan playing at Funtastic island park
Talking about pond life
The docent from the Tulsa zoo

Our picnic at Will Rogers Birthplace
Kenzie feeding the goats
Skylar feeding the goats
Tristan and Seth feeding the goats

Kathryn, Darian and Makenzie
Piggie pizza
Kylan and his friend Jack (Kylan is so happy that they have matching aprons)

Since I was so busy with the JBF sale (see previous post) I didn't have time to post last week so here is the week in review.

My sis in law came into town and I hardly got to see her due to working all the time buy my wonderful husband took the kids to see her several times during the week, the kids finished up their 7 week course at our church. Makenzie's Kid U course was soccer and Kylan's was Outdoor Adventure the next 7 weeks they are going to be taking martial arts and they are super excited and can't wait!

The kids started hip hop class but when we got to class the teacher was sick so it was canceled so today is actually their first day.

The library had a zoo docent come and talk about pond life animals.

Kellee (my sis) and her kids came to play one day.

My mom found us a free used desk for Kylan and some dividers that they use in offices for our school room.

I broke my toe and then 3 days later I twisted my ankle again and it's almost totally black on one side! YUCK!!!

Coop was fun and the kids made piggie pizza's in cooking class.

We had a vision screening for our homeschool group and Kylan passed but Kenzie didn't so it looks like glasses are in her future!

Kylan was asked to me Makenzie's escort for the Owasso Band Homecoming court. Makenzie was asked to be the little flower girl princess and her escort backed out so they asked Kylan. We went and got him fitted for his tux and I told him you sure do look handsome and he said, "I know". Wish I had that much self confidence!!!

We celebrated Sierra's(our niece) birthday while she's in town.

Kevin's parents had their 4 kids together so they had them choose items that were from Grandma and Grandpa Wedemeyer's house. We heard some great memories from that session.

This was the last week our church is going to be in the gym next week we will be in the actual sanctuary that was re-modeled.

Oh, I forgot that we also went back to Will Roger's Bithplace and had a picnic and small field trip with some homeschool friends.

This is a typical week in the Wedemeyer house but I usually am not entering tags for the JBF sale so that made it even more crazy then normal and in between all of this we have to do school!

Just between friends or JBF

Sorry I haven't posted for a while but I have been working for my friend Donna at her JBF sale doing some data entry and it was a lot of work but I am finished now! YEAH!!!! If you don't know what JBF is then you have got to check out the Just Between Friends website and see if there is one in your area. I usually buy all of my children's winter/fall clothes right now at the sale and the summer/spring clothes in the spring and it's so much more economical then buying everything new. The clothes are inspected before they are put out so they do all the work for you. All you have to do is shop for some super cute clothes for your kiddos! I spent a total of $150 and my kids are super stocked up until the spring...unless Kylan grows another 4"(like he just finished doing) but I did buy some extra jeans that were the next size up just in case! They also have bedding, children's furniture, toys, books, homeschool supplies and more.

Seussical

Yesterday we went to see Seussical and it was so cute! We saw several of our homeschool friends and since we were homeschoolers they took us right down and sat us in the very front. The seats were great and the show was AWESOME! If you live in the area check out the children's shows because they are great and affordable!
