Floating down the street

On Monday it poured at our house and when I say poured I mean it was like 4" of rain in an hour, it was CRAZY!!!! Kevin tried to get home from work at a decent time that day and couldn't make it home because our street was flooded, he had to park the car and walk home but at heast he was home (he's been working many, many hours the past couple of weeks). He decided to go have some fun with the rising water and he put on his swim trunks and went and got a tube to float on. It was too small for him so he went and got some noodles that you play with in the pool. I videoed him, you have to check it out, too funny!

Gross...a black tongue!!!

The other day I woke up and went to brush my teeth and noticed that my tongue was black! UGH!!! What crazy disease do I have???? Am I dying??? These are the first thoughts that popped into my head, so I call the Dr. and talk to a nurse and she's kinda freaking out too and then she tells me to wait here comes the Dr to talk to me. He asks if I've taken any Pepto Bismol in the past 24 hrs and I said yes and that explained it all. I NEVER knew that pepto could turn your tongue black but it sure did scare me. I used my tongue scraper and brushed my teeth like normal and it was all gone and I haven't seen a trace of it since then. Kinda freaky huh! Anything crazy like that every happen to you?? I didn't take a photo of it because it looks disgusting but it you just want to see it then google it and check it out...blah!

Handwriting turned into a font

Makenzie's handwriting
Kylan's handwriting

My kiddos aren't feeling that well today, some kind of stomach thing and a low grade fever so we aren't doing a lot today. However, I found this place on the internet that you can turn your handwriting into a font and it's all for FREE!!!! So, they've had a fun time typing up letters to family in thier own special font made from their writing! We are going to be making all kinds of crazy fonts over the next couple of days....maybe we will share some with you! Have a fun weekend!

Our 17 yr anniversary was on sat. and we celebrated at Lake of the Ozarks. We met our friends the Schnables (from St Louis) and had a wonderful weekend celebrating our anniversary, their anniversary and Christine's birthday. We are so thankful to Kevin's parents for allowing us to use their condo for the holiday weekend, it was so nice and we feel so blessed to stay at it! Also thanks to my mom for watching our dog Trix, he was a stinker and gave her a hard time while we were away.

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!

A picture loss

A week ago Kevin was out of town and I was really sick and so I let Kylan play on the computer but told him not to delete any items or play with any of my stuff. Well, he didn't listen very well and somehow he deleted ALL of my pictures on the computer. I had over 15,000 pics from when we adopted the kids, all of our vacations, everyday pics, EVERYTHING was gone. I was so upset but remembered that at some point last year I had backed everything up on an external hard drive. Well, the backup was done on Dec 15th, 2008 so I had about 10,000 pictures backed up and then between the blog and Facebook I found about 2500 more so I am only missing about 2000-3000 pictures. I take a TON of pics because I'm a scrapbooker and now I don't have Christmas pictures, Easter pictures and basically Jan-May of 2009 is gone! If you happen to have pictures of my family please email them to me or let me know on Facebook. I'm really sad but kinda mad at myself for not backing up my pictures at all this year.

First Day of Homeschool 2009-2010

Notice that Kenzie has her Homeschool Girl shirt on for the 1st day!

Since we are studying the Prairie Primer I gave each of them a "Prairie" pencil sharpener and pencil from the Little House gift shop.

The kids are really excited about school this year because we normally use My Father's World curriculum but decided to take a break from it this year and we are using the Prairie Primer which is based on The Little House on the Prairie series of books. We have several friends and family that are using it this year too so I am hoping we can all get together and do some of the larger projects with the "Prairie Primer's". So far this year we have made butter and cheese, made Indian teepee's, homemade bread, we washed some clothes by hand to see how hard it was with out a machine, made molasses cookies, and we are working on Little House in the Big Woods lap books right now.
We also started a new art curriculum because I didn't think they were getting very much out of the art class that they took last year with Young Rembrandt's. This year we are using a curriculum from How Great Thou Art that has DVDs and you watch the lesson and then do the work and we are using the I Can Do All Things set. I bought enough supplies so that I can do art with the kids. We really enjoy our art time together.
We are also using a great science curriculum this year from Apologia and it's the zoology 2 book called Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day and the kids LOVE science so much that I think we will probably finish it up before Christmas and then start on another book for the new year. Thanks for reading about some of our school curriculum this year and if you have any great curriculum or ideas for home school then leave me a comment!

Crazy food quiz

Since March I have been walking almost every morning with my friend Sarah and then trying to run a couple of miles at least 3 times per week and I've really been watching what I eat. All of this in hopes of losing some fat and getting healthier. Not too long ago I came across this book called Eat This, Not That and I just found out that they have a food quiz and you can try to guess which food is better for you although most of these foods aren't good for you at all! Click here and try it and see how many you get correct...I didn't do very good! The bacon one kinda freaked me out a little cause we just switched to turkey bacon and I guess it's not as good for you as I thought it was. They also have a website that you can read and it has tips on choosing fast food items that are better for you then others. If you have any weight loss tips please let me know. I would love to read them!!!
