Sharing from my heart:

What a fun review, it brought me back to my childhood and teen years.  You see my mom was a children's minister and we all helped her with the ministry.  For many years I helped in children's church, volunteered where I was needed at VBS and even went to Mexico on a mission trip when I was 15.  On the mission trip we did medical missions and hosted VBS for the children living in the desolate villages outside of Acapulco.  When I say desolate I mean they lived in huts made from cardboard boxes or tin when it was available. It was eye opening to a young teenager from the USA.  I'll never forget sharing the gospel with those children by using evangelism tracts, puppet shows and hugs.  We gave a lot of hugs to those precious little ones during that week. I'll never forget this little guy coming up to me and showing me the lightning bugs and I just hugged him so much, he was starved for attention.  Later on he brought me a picture of himself and I still have it today, he also sparked a little seed for adoption and of course today I have two children that I was blessed to adopt.

I really wish we would have had all of these fun gospel tracts that Let the Little Children Come sent to me. I was pleased to see they offer Chinese and Mexico evangelism products as well.  Here's a brief rundown of what they sent:

Family Honor Plate

About the plate:

Step #1 MOM AND DAD - BE THE EXAMPLE. BE THE ROLE-MODEL:
The virtues are listed in the center of the plate for mom and dad to use as their anchor, their moral compass to guide them in how they need to show up for and to their children.  This is how our children learn what character (Christ's Character) is, what it looks like, what it feels like. Our children are watching us and learning from us.

Step #2 BE ON THE LOOKOUT:
Look for the good choices and attitude your kids/spouse are making and showing throughout the day. Track it back to the virtues and character it shows.

Step #3 CELEBRATE THEIR CHARACTER:
Turn dinnertime into a celebration when you catch someone making good choices and showing good character and present their meal on the FAMILY HONOR PLATE.  This is when you:
·      Talk about the choices they made and the virtues and character that it showed (Be specific).
·      Talk about how they made everyone involved feel and the impact they had on people and how that is POWERFUL and BEAUTIFUL.

About the cards:

Every question is followed up with "Why?" to take everyone's answers to a deeper more intimate level.  That's where the magic is and the real conversation starts. So now when even a simple question such as..."What is your favorite dessert?" for example, rather than someone answering "Apple Pie" and then moving on to the next person, the whole family gets to walk down memory lane because it reminds them of Grandma Smith who always made apple pies with them when they came to visit." Her house always smelled of fresh baked pies and she gave the best hugs when we walked in the door."

Communication is the key to connecting, building and maintaining healthy relationships.  When we are raise our children to be confident in their ability to communicate with others and get their point across, situations are less stressful and they have better outcomes.

I really wish we would have had this Family Honor Plate earlier in my children's lives, they're now 16 and 17 so I wasn't sure if they would appreciate it as much as a younger child would.  Clearly I was wrong.  They love it and I'm always watching for a reason to serve them dinner on this plate and they've started watching to see who should receive the plate next.  Dad and mom have even gotten it!  This is a great family gift...hint, hint Christmas is coming soon.

We've also enjoyed using the Let's Talk Table Thyme discussion cards as well. We aren't a typical family of teens because they always have something to say and rarely stop talking (which I love) but when we're in the car they don't talk as much so I tucked the discussion cards in the cup holder for the night we were going to look at Christmas lights. Great idea!  We had the best discussions about favorite songs, what we wanted to be when we were kids and what our teens want to be, would we choose $5,000 cash or a week long dream vacation among many, many other questions. It was a blast!

There is no specific author. It will be listed as Zondervan.
$14.99, Hardcover, pFor ages 13 & up.

Sharing from my heart:

I enjoyed browsing through this beautiful devotional but felt this might be more for a younger audience since the devotions are short, sweet and to the point. The recommended age is 13 and up but I see this more as a tween devotional for 10-15 year olds. I asked my 17 year old her opinion and she said yes it's beautiful and well written but she feels it's much to short for those that are 16 and up and really want to dig into the word of God.  It starts with the day at the top then the scripture and moves on to a short devotional and then leaves a few lines for you to write in your own thoughts. The blue and white colors are quite lovely and make the book beautiful to look at.
